The Likely Truth Behind That Viral Exploding ECigarette Video

Press outlets have documented events when vapers have experienced explosions, running lurid statements about bursting cigarette and showing crushing burn injuries allegedly due to the apparatus. Lately, a CCTV video went viral, claiming to reveal a guy in a gas-station whose trousers actually caught fire, delivering him running outside to remove off the clothes.

In practically all instances noted, the issue of alleged bursting cigarette is instead concerning the abuse of battery. These batteries will not be unique to e-cigs. They're typical in a wide array of goods, including mobile phones and notebook computers.

Altogether, there were eight injuries with no deaths related to these 25 episodes. The many significant injuries were as a result of burns up. Many of the injuries, 80-percent of them in reality, came to the battery being incorrectly charged among other things. The statement explained that cigarette should be charged in the way in which their makers had advised.

Amber Whaley at Info-electronic-cigarette.com found a similar result. “In our research, we found the same trend; surveying 30 separate cases from 2012 to 2015 we found 22 cases where the fire started while the device was charging. The remaining 8 exploded either in the users’ possession, in their pocket or hand, or it was undisclosed by the media at the time of the incident.

"The American Journal of Medical Case Reports have their own thoughts as to why the batteries blow up: "Many e-cigarettes use lithium batteries due to their ability to store large amounts of energy in a compact amount of space. However, the inherent characteristics of lithium batteries can pose a risk of fire and explosion. Partial thickness burns caused by spontaneously exploding mobile phones has been described in the literature. The lithium ion battery has separately been described as the ‘mini-bomb in your pocket,’ due to its known ability to spontaneously ignite. Poor design, use of low-quality materials, manufacturing flaws and defects, and improper use and handling can all contribute to a condition known as ‘thermal runaway,’ whereby the internal battery temperature can increase to the point of causing a battery fire or explosion.

"However, the bureau includes when the apparatus is used as directed and not changed or billed wrong there are absolutely no signs that overheating might be an issue. Simply speaking, if vapers utilize their cigarette as directed, there's a small opportunity they're going to endure any horrendous injuries current headlines have pumped-up.
