Non-smoking Teens Repotedly Not Interested in E-Cigs |
Non-smoking Teens Not Interested in vaping Advocates of electronic cigarettes have claimed that, because Electronic cigarette are significantly less risky than conventional flammable cigarette smokes, use of Electronic cigarette by smokers can reduce the health damages as a result of smoking; yet, some have stressed that ecigs may bring teenagers who don't smoke, particularly if e-cigs were supplied in interesting tastes. "Concerns about initiation of e-cigarette use by nonsmoking teens have focused on the expected and assumed appeal of flavors. It is important to replace assumptions with data. Our study shows that flavor descriptors, even those expected to appeal to youth, do not do so," said Saul Shiffma of Pinney Associates, and professor of psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. "This is reassuring because nonsmoking teens would gain no health benefit from using e-cigarettes since they don't smoke. In contrast, adult smokers could dramatically reduce health risks by switching from tobacco cigarette smoking to e-cigarette use. "Investigators interviewed 216 non-smoking adolescents ages 13 to 17 and 432 mature smokers of flammable cigarette smokers about their curiosity in a variety of prospective ecigarette tastes. On a range of 0 to 10 about curiosity in using Electronic cigarette, provided in an inventory of flavors, adolescents noted minimum curiosity, and teenagers' curiosity failed to change across tastes. Among adult smokers of combustible cigarette smokes, curiosity in Electronic cigarette flavors was largest among current customers of electronic cigarettes, accompanied by previous customers and never-users. Current e-cigarette consumers signaled an interest in flavors like vanilla bean, dual caffeine, and strawberry, not one that appealed to non-smoking adolescents. |
